Nintendo To Allow Its Characters In Non-Commercial Media, License-Free
YEA!
Nintendo has long held that its iconic characters – The Mario Brothers, Link, Donkey Kong, etc, — were Nintendo’s and Nintendo’s only, taking a hard line on their likenesses being used in non-Nintendo media, even going as far as to send copyright takedown notices to those who’ve used the characters in harmless YouTube videos.

But now it appears that Nintendo’s had a change of heart. Today it announced that it will allow unlicensed derivative works from now on, meaning parody makers, tribute builders, and all around fans now have access to freely use classic gaming characters that they love. We’re guessing it may draw some line at some hot and heavy Luigi on Peach action, but most others should be free to create whatever they wish.

The news comes via Nintendo president Saturo Iwata in an announcement that the company is taking part in a video mash-up event in Japan and that anyone is free to use any Nintendo character for it or, indeed, anything else non-commercial.

This is a large step for Nintendo, as its popular characters are one of the major factors keeping it afloat. The fans love them, especially in the mobile gaming world. While we don’t expect to see Donkey Kong making his way to the Xbox, there might be some non-Nintendo gaming of some sort in the near future. Whether or not this indicates some sort of other IP changes from the House of Mario, though, is now unknown, but it certainly is a fan-friendly move that should make many gamers happy.

NEW 2016 Mario

NEW 2016 Mario, I thought I would do another Mario since the last one I did was back in crayon in the 90's. So here's this one, reminds me of that stubborn mold around the toilet that doesn't go away. The only Hero plumber - (I am just a plumber)  MARIO. I just did a quick freehand drawing in my Prismacolor pencils. I can do more to this if asked!  Enjoy.
Asking 59.oo unframed on Strathmore Mixed medium paper. 14x11

So back in the day, 1989, 1991, around that time.
I did drawings of Mario in crayons and I have kept them to this day. There old, never could show them, because of copyright laws.  This one < is laminated, however over time the paper has yellowed and the crayon has lightened. So I went back and recolored them some, to get the color back. Me as a Kid, this is what I did! I have other Characters I liked and drew, BUT, I can’t show them because of copyright laws. I used to play video games back in the day. All the Nintendo games,  Super Nintendo and  the 64Nintendo games.  Good times.
Maybe someday, I will get to show other characters that I have drew. ✨ 🌟 ✨
